The Willow
Little owls nest in them, grass snakes sleep in them, roses bloom in them and purple emperors breed on them. Willow trees are vital to the well-being of much of the wildlife that thrives on the Somerset Levels, one of the most beautiful of Britain's remaining wetland habitats.
Crack, white, cricket bat, sallow and osier - all belong to the willow family and provide human beings with some of the raw materials to make objects that ease our everyday existence. But, despite a growing awareness of its potential value to man and its continuing importance to wildlife, the generosity of this modest tree is often ignored or overlooked. Narrated by DEREK JONES
