3: Gamin pinoccho's bed is a cardboard box on a busy street corner. Breakfast is what he can scrounge from the early morning clients of the pavement cafés. The rest of his day is filled with begging for the money to buy a few luxuries like popcorn, and having fun. Pinoccho is 7, a gamin, the name given to the children who live on the streets of Bogota, capital of Colombia in South America. Extreme poverty has driven them from their homes in the city slums. No one knows how many there are - 500, maybe 5,000. They have formed their own mini-society where survival depends on what they can beg or steal. CIRO DURAN , a Colombian director, took two years to make this film on the gamin's precarious life. Narrated by VALERIE SINGLETON
