The John Player League featuring
Hampshire v Lancashire
Portsmouth is the setting for today's meeting of two former holders of the John Player Trophy. Hampshire won in 1975 and Lancashire, realising the potential of one-day cricket at a very early stage, took top place in 1969 and 1970. Barry Richards of Hampshire, who always figures in the batting averages, still holds the highest individual score of 155 runs in a Sunday match.
PETER WALKER introduces the programme which includes news of today's other fixtures.

The Truth About Red Cloud, General Custer, Butch Cassidy ... and John Wayne
' Yessir ... if you've seen it on those Western movies, it first happened on the Powder.'
The American West - nowhere else in the world has been so saturated in fiction. But to producer Tim Slessor who once lived there, the reality is much more dramatic than the myth.
This film tells the story of just one small area: the Powder River basin of Wyoming. Here, in its original edition, happened almost everything that has gone to make the West the legend that it has become. This was the final strong-hold of Sioux; later, came English and Scots m'luds who aimed to make their fortunes as cattle-barons. Later still, came the Wild
Bunch - led by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But, as this film discloses, they were not killed in an Andean shoot-out ... Yessir ... It first happened on the Powder.

Thank You Madam An 80th birthday tribute to
Dame Ninette de Valois , founder of The Royal Ballet.
' I don't think it was particularly clever-I just crossed the Waterloo Road and talked to her.' That meeting at the Old Vic with Lilian Baylis in 1926 led to the foundation of The Royal Ballet.
Dame Ninette, known to generations of dancers as Madam, tells the story of The Royal Ballet. Then, as a tribute to her work, there is another chance to see the recording of Checkmate featuring Robert Helpmann and Beryl Grey

Covering motor-racing's Formula One World Championship on Sundays through the summer.
The Spanish Grand Prix
From Jarama: Mario Andretti regained the championship lead with a convincing win in Belgium. But his margin over Tyrrell's Depailler, Ferrari's Reutemann and his Lotus team-mate Peterson is slender. Can the American win again in Spain as he did last year?
