Thirteen programmes which look at figures in an American landscape.
He's an ex-cop and a 'loner'. In the Yellow Pages John O'Grady describes himself quite simply as 'Hollywood's Number One Private Eye'. His office is on Sunset Boulevard- 'The Strip'. He drives a Cadillac, keeps a gun in his desk drawer, smokes 'Luckys' and dresses like his fictional counterparts. He was a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department and later was Head of the Hollywood Narcotics Division.
But times changed and the tough methods of John O'Grady went out of fashion. So O'Grady set himself up as a Private Eye, modelling himself on his fictional counterparts, because that's what his Hollywood clients expect - and pay for.
Derek Nimmo with the help of his guests brings his own particular light-hearted curiosity to bear on a different topic each week.
The programme in which the BBC hands over air time to the public. Tonight:
The People of Glasgow's East End present
Every Town has an East End
' Press and television coverage of our area shows it as being full of alcoholics, vandals and criminals - no mention of a community. Sure we've got problems, but our area is going through massive changes, and we want a say in those changes. Our aims are basic. like the shops, open spaces, doctors and amenities that most people take for granted. We do have a community, and we want to tell you about it.'
Made by the people of Glasgow's East End with the help of the Community Programme Unit
