As the elite football nations of the world prepare for next year's World Championship in Argentina, tonight's film presentation recalls the memories of three tense weeks of competition in a wet and stormy German summer: Franz Beckenbauer and Johan Cruyff ; tiny Haiti who scored the first goal against Italy for two years; the decline of mighty Brazil, three times World Champions; Scotland, unbeaten and yet eliminated; Poland, who knocked out England in qualifying and became the surprise packet of the tournament; the inventive flowing football of Holland; and the Final itself in the Munich Olympic Stadium, with two penalties awarded by English referee Jack Taylor , ultimate disappointment for the Dutch, and triumph for the hosts, West Germany.
