An Inaugural Eve Gala Performance
On the day when the new American President has his first official meeting in Washington with our own Prime Minister, we look back to the eve of President Carter's inauguration, when a glittering cast of top American artists gathered at the Kennedy Center, Washington, for a gala concert in his honour. It was an event which, as veteran actress Bette Davis said, seemed to reflect a new spirit in America - young, buoyant and full of enthusiasm and optimism.
