PETER WALKER introduces the programme which includes news of today's other fixtures:

The Circus Moves On - In Calabria The old traditions of travelling players live on in Southern Italy. The Circus EmbeUriva is made up of seven families who never play a town for longer than three days before moving on. ' We need new audiences; we need the variety; the change of landscape, the change of people around us, as we need the air we breathe. We would die if we were settled.'
The backstage life, the travelling, the tent up, the tent down, the animals, the heat, the troubles, are all to be found in this film.
An outstanding documentary that conveys the texture and even smell of the people and places. (SUNDAY TIMES)

A series of four programmes about outstanding American artists. 4: Twyla Tharp :
Remembering the 30s
The young choreographer TWYLA THARP and her dance group are among the most exciting to emerge in recent years.
The programme consists of a montage of dance routines of the 30s, including appearances by IRENE CASTLE, FATS WALLER, BILL ' BOJANGLES ' ROBtNSON and the ROCKETTES, and then a new work by Twyla Tharp called Sue's Leg to music by Fats Waller , evoking a time when, despite the Depression, ' all America danced '.
