Up the Amazon Narrated by FRANK WINDSOR
There is probably no more romantic word in the geography books than ' Amazon '. The world's greatest river pours out as much water in one day as the Thames delivers in a year.
The Amazon jungle covers an area ten times the size of France. Hollywood sees it as a sinister region full of slinking Indians, 40ft snakes and snapping alligators; writers revel in the ' Green Hell'. Scientists see it as the world's oxygen factory and the Brazilians as a frontier to be conquered.
Now the Amazon is being opened up to tourism-package holiday travellers are penetrating its mysteries at first hand and discovering a green paradise.
