Gunsmith Lindsay Tilney , 68, works in Beccles in a shop started by his grandfather in 1860; now his 18-year-old son Robert has left school and joined the business. They spend 80 per cent of their spare time together because their interests are almost identical.
In the evening, at an age when most men are happily settling down in front of the television with their slippers on, Lindsay is out shooting, walking, fishing or sailing. His energy is unflagging and even young Robert has a hard time keeping up with him.

Diseases reaching epidemic proportions in the West are still almost unknown in Africa. Coronary heart disease; cancer of the colon; gall stones. Why? Is it because, in the West, we over-refine our food, extract the roughage, the dietary fibre?
Dr Denis Burkitt, already well-known for his medical detective work in tracking down the virus that causes a form of cancer called lymphoma, now looks at the changes which occur when rural Africans move into the cities and take on Western habits. As their diet changes, so do their disease patterns. He believes that if we adjusted our diets to take in more roughage, all these major diseases could be prevented.
