This summer North Sea oil will be tapped for the first time, sending ashore a flood of black gold which could make Britain one of the world's top six oil producers within five years.
Tonight's documentary reports on the realities from the booming north of Britain, from Norway and the Middle East, and from the frontiers of the new technology in the restless North Sea. Is oil going to revolutionise Britain? How well is the Government coping? Is industry rising to the challenge or missing its chances? What price is being paid by the communities in the forefront of the boom? And who will benefit? Tonight, Andrew Neil and Donald MacCormick seek the answers.
