Kurosawa: The Last Samurai
Kurosawa is one of the world's greatest living film directors. His films Rashomon and Seven Samurai are classics which put Japanese films on the map.
Tonight's programme includes excerpts from these and his latest film Dodeska Den. It also includes a unique interview with Kurosawa and explores the difficulties which led to his suicide attempt in 1971. Narrated by JOHN STOCKBRIDGE and LYNDON BROOK

Chishu Ryu , Chiyeko Higashiyama Setsuko Hara , So
Yamamura Ozu 's film is a simple portrait of Japanese family life. Shukishi and Tomi Hirayama , an elderly middle-class couple, decide to visit their married children in Tokyo. Their trip is marked by a series of minor domestic crises and is destined to end in tragedy.
