6: Bristol with Kenneth Hudson
The pace of life in this century has meant that there have already been several quite unnoticed industrial revolutions in the 20th century. Not least of these has been the birth and development of sound broadcasting. PETER WEST, formerly Head of BBC Engineering in Bristol proudly displays a collection of early broadcasting equipment which he has assiduously rescued from oblivion.

Not every police constable can hope to see a life-long dream come true-especially if his dream is to make hundreds of acres of some of the loveliest - and most expensive - land in Britain a permanent sanctuary for wildlife. Oddly enough it was the coming of a vast modern industrial plant to the middle of Anglesey that enabled PC Ken Williams to realise his ambition.

Search for Life
A Martian ice-age; dormant life on another planet waiting to re-emerge; a huge interplanetary biological laboratory being assembled in the desert.
These are all elements in the story told in tonight's Horizon.
The story of a new drive to answer the almost imponderable questions of how life arose on earth. Did our proteins and DNA really arise from some primordial soup nearly four billion years ago? If so, how did they become organised into life? What happened during the one billion years before fossil evidence traces the path of evolution?
In an attempt to find the answers to these questions scientists are looking both here on earth and out into the universe. Narrator PAUL VAUGHAN
