With film from Swedish television Europa starts a two-part investigation into the trial of the Italian anarchist leader PIETRO VALPREDA. He is accused of killing 16 people as a result of a bomb explosion in a Milan bank. But before his trial 12 people connected with the case died mysteriously. Allegations are heard that the Italian police, on instructions from fascist groups, have murdered witnesses.
Many Italians are convinced that not only is Valpreda innocent but that the circumstances of the trial suggest a sinister and secret alliance beween the Italian police, political parties and the judiciary. It is a trial which the defence lawyers call a test of the Italian system of justice.

Fifteen years ago the British drinker took his pick from 3,000 different brews. Today the number is halved and purists insist the quality of the beer has declined.
Christopher Hutt , Chairman of the Campaign for Real Ale, and the Guardian's beer correspondent, Richard Boston , also claim that there is a deterioration in the service the brewers offer the public. Village pubs are closed and city houses destroyed by modernisation. In tonight's programme the oft-attacked brewers confront their critics.
