That is the proportion in which the wealth of this country is divided up - five per cent of the population own 95 per cent of the wealth, some £138,000,000,000. If that were divided equally, each married couple in Britain would be £9 a week better off, but it would have to come from the lucky five per cent.
Would that be fair, just and useful? Death duties, income tax and successive Chancellors have failed to redistribute wealth-what can or should be done now?
