The Story of 7-a-side Rugby
The Scottish Rugby Union's choice to celebrate their Centenary with an international 7-a-side tournament, incorporating teams from New Zealand, Australia, France and the four Home Unions, is a fitting tribute to the abbreviated game of rugby.
Started by Ned Haig, a butcher from Melrose, in 1883, the game has flourished ever since not only in Scotland but also throughout Wales and England where, at Twickenham, the Middlesex tournament caps the season with an exciting day's entertainment.

This week: The Juggernauts
Tonight Man Alive comes from Farringdon in Berkshire where heavy lorries thunder through day and night. The residents say the big lorries should not be allowed through. The transport men say that unless they are, distribution costs will rise and so will prices.
Jack Pizzey and Desmond Wilcox ask if we should keep the lorries off the roads that aren't big enough for them. Why can't the railways do more to relieve the traffic on the roads? Are we building new roads fast enough to cope with the juggernaut explosion?

Starring Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Lucille Bremer, Judy Garland, Kathryn Grayson, Lena Horne, Lucille Ball, James Melton, Victor Moore, Red Skelton, Esther Williams and William Powell as Florenz Ziegfeld

A musical extravaganza that embodies all the spectacular showmanship which symbolised the name of Ziegfeld - sumptuous sets and costumes, beautiful girls and a series of star turns.

MGM followed their successful film biography, The Great Ziegfeld, with this spectacular review. It opens with the great showman from his luxurious residence in Heaven recalling his past successes and planning just one more, even greater show, including Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly in a Gershwin number; bathing star Esther Williams in a fantastic under-water ballet; and Judy Garland in a burlesque of a Hollywood star.
