Gloucestershire will always have a place in cricket history as being the county of two of the finest batsmen ever-Dr. W. G. Grace and Walter Hammond. Although its fortunes in recent years have been less than memorable, the arrival this year of Geoff Pullar and the tenacious-ness of its new captain Tony Brown will undoubtedly strengthen a very able side.
The visitors this afternoon, Sussex, are building a reputation for providing an exciting finish in this competition, losing to Yorkshire and Kent by only seven and ten runs respectively and winning by the narrow margin of six against Warwickshire in their last televised match in May.
Today's other fixtures: Derbyshire v. Northamptonshire, Hampshire v. Warwickshire, Kent v. Lancashire, Leicestershire v. Essex, Yorkshire v. Worcestershire
