Leicestershire's policy to play positive and purposeful cricket over the last few seasons has resulted in both a resurgence of cricketing interest in the county and a decisive improvement in their Championship participation. Under the leadership of first Tony Lock and now Ray Illingworth they have become one of the most attractive teams in the country-with their confidence this season boosted by the acquisition of Graham McKenzie, the Australian fast bowler, and by the recent appointment of Illingworth as England's current Test captain.
When Glamorgan were last featured in a televised County league game against Kent they seemed to have the game sewn up but eventually lost in an extremely tight finish by only five runs.

There's hardly a square foot of land in Britain that somebody doesn't own - and that somebody else hasn't got plans for. Finding room for vital new cities and industries means something has to go - lonely valleys disappear under water, quiet fields under motorways, houses, and factories. How much countryside will there be at the end of this century when another fifteen million of us have been squashed into it?
From the air the progress of this new Battle for Britain is even clearer. This film looks at some of the casualties so far. It features a Bird's-Eye View of the 250-mile Pennine Way which passes through much of England's most striking countryside - and through almost every kind of danger that threatens it.

Clough Williams Ellis architect and Portmeirion

The Italianate village of Portmeirion in North Wales is the work of an architect now well over eighty, a personal statement in stone and slate, plaster and tile. Forty years ago Clough Williams Ellis bought this wooded peninsula and began building the village to "body forth my ideas of fitness and gaiety, and indeed, be me!" In this film portrait, Clough Williams Ellis is seen in Portmeirion itself and at his family home among the foothills of Snowdon. There he talks about his life and his work, and the film shows something of what he has built, from a model village on the Antrim coast of Ulster to the grave of his friend David Lloyd George at Llanystumdwy.
