Popular romantic star Tyrone Power appears in this afternoon's film as Constable Duncan MacDonald, a courageous and resourceful member of the Mounties who, assisted solely by a half-breed guide (Thomas Gomez), is given the task of returning the warring Cree Indians to the rule of law.
Tyrone Power, who died at the early age of forty-five, was recently seen in BBC-tv's Great Stars movie "Alexander's Ragtime Band". Cameron Mitchell, who was a rising star at the time MacDonald was produced, is now an established name of many large-scale productions such as "Last of the Vikings" and "Hombre", but is best known to BBC-2 viewers for his role as Buck in "The High Chaparral".

New anti-pollution laws in the United States aimed against the petrol engine have added fresh fire to the boilers of the steam car. Steam cars went off the road about forty years ago and enthusiasts anxious to bring them back have had little or no support. Now some of the big motor manufacturers are interested in steam cars again because it may be cheaper to make a steam car than attempt to clean up the exhaust of the internal combustion engine. Has the steam car a new future?
Or will it go down into history for good?

Tonight's programme, filmed on location, aims at providing a musical parallel with the diverse yet unique images of America. So the Tijuana Brass play 'Cabaret' as the camera roams along some of the most famous pleasure streets-New York's Broadway, Chicago's State Street, and Fremont Street in Las Vegas.
In New Orleans 'Wall Street Rag' is heard against a background of the famous old-time jazz musicians. And ' California Girls' is played while 200 drummajorettes twirl their batons.
The musical safari also takes in a trip on the aerial tramway near Palm Springs and a visit to the Los Angeles Zoo.
Herb Alpert makes one of his rare appearances as a singer when wandering along the coastline near Malibu he serenades his wife with 'This guy's in love with you.'

Arriving in New Mexico to claim inherited property, Marian Warner finds that the Navajos are being oppressed and exploited by Morgan, a trader, and Blucher, an Indian agent. Morgan plans to buy the property from Marian and then to have her killed in a manner that will appear accidental. After saving a young Indian girl from Morgan, Marian wins the respect of a Navajo chief and of Blandy, a Navajo outlaw hostile to white men. With his help she averts an uprising.
The direction is crisp and Scott Brady makes a powerful and convincing Navajo. The rugged landscape does the rest.
