'The greatest experience from the outside world that I have ever had.' Thus wrote D. H. Lawrence of the time he spent with his wife, Frieda, in and near the little town of Taos in New Mexico.
This documentary, filmed in Taos, describes the impact D. H. Lawrence and his circle made there between 1922 and 1925.

In a steam room at a Carlsbad reducing clinic, three women meet, with one thing in common - they are all fat. A friendship begins which is cemented by a mutual passion for bridge, but on the surface they are a bizarre trio. The 'no-nonsense' 'Frank' Hickson favours men's clothes, ties, cropped hair, and sports a monocle; Arrow Sutcliffe has a penchant for handsome continentals; while the placid Beatrice Richman has an insatiable appetite for rich food. One year the women take a house in Antibes and enjoy an idyllic life until an intruder threatens to destroy their happiness.
