The art of Ceri Richards
His ability to draw resembles that of a Renaissance old master.
Born the son of a South Wales tinplater, and as a boy apprenticed to an electrician, Ceri Richards has achieved an international reputation-not least by rich and complex pictures that have their starting points in musical themes.
An accomplished musician himself, he was nine when in 1912 the Russian Kandinsky wrote 'The soul is a piano with many strings. Colour is a keyboard. The artist is the hand that plays on them.'
Ceri Richards's art bears out that thought.
