Marcus has just returned from Israel fanatical about the role of the country in Jewish life. He hopes that Sam, his sister's boy-friend, feels the same. But Sam doesn't. Tension mounts between the young men, and when Sam refuses to give money to the Jewish National Fund, Marcus sees this as a betrayal of Zionism and suddenly the evening becomes ripe for violence.

A new series of profiles on the life and work of artists of international stature

Lipchitz is one of the greatest sculptors in the world. Born in Lithuania in 1891 he went to Paris just before the First World War but was forced to leave for America when the Nazis seized his house. This artist's life has been dogged by sickness, ill-fortune, and personal tragedy, but despite this he continues with a gruelling work schedule and his output by anybody's standards is prodigious.
