Donald Macleod looks at the lives and careers of the second generation of the Mannheim school composers, all pupils of Johann Stamitz, who ensured that his legacy as a composer and orchestral director would last for over 70 years.
Among them were Christian Cannabich , who took over the role of Kapellmeister after Stamitz's death, the symphonists Ignaz Franzl and Anton Fils, and the virtuoso oboist Ludwig August Lebrun.
