Curzon Plays Mozart at the Proms
Hilary Finch continues her exploration of famous performances at the Proms with recordings made by pianist Clifford Curzon , including a duet with Daniel Barenboim and a complete performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No 26 in D,
K537 (Coronation), with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Pierre Boulez in 1974.

The BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Barry Wordsworth begin today's programme with Sidney Torch's Mexican Fiesta. There are vintage recordings of Lehar and Gilbert and Sullivan as well as music by Ronald Binge , George Melachrino and Nino Rota .

When the conquistadors colonised South America, they discovered not only untold wealth but also the remarkable musical cultures of the indigenous peoples. These became assimilated in varying degrees with European influences, setting up a series of political and artistic tensions which continue to the present day. David Huckvale tells the story of the Spanish musical invaders and the vibrant culture that fought back.

Schoenberg's vast work is based on a series of Danish poems and tells the tale of the legendary 12th-century King Waldemar and his illicit love for Tove, a young girl living in the castle of Gurre.
Scored for a large orchestra with soloists and a massive chorus, this work was a great success at its first performance - one of the rare occasions during his lifetime when Schoenberg was applauded by the Viennese public. Presented by Paul Guinery.
