The crafty carouser Falstaff- played by Bryn Terfel - sends identical love letters to Mistress Alice and Mistress Meg. Naturally, the two women confide in each other and discover the duplication. Based largely on Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor, this is the only comedy among Verdi's established works, and his final opera.
