Seeking to vindicate the most momentous decision of his life, top cancer surgeon Will Flint takes up an appointment in Peking. There he hopes to find the only man who can give him the answer he needs - Professor Hsu, a pioneer in cancer research and the hero of Flint's undergraduate days. But when he is met with a blank wall of bureaucracy and told that no such person exists, Flint enlists the help of Chinese interpreter Jin-Juan. However, their relationship could spell danger for them both. Meanwhile, the students - Jin-Juan's daughter among them - gather in Tiananmen Square.
