The second of three classic Miss Marple stories, based on Agatha Christie's books, has a screenplay by Alan Plater, features a distinguished cast and stars Joan Hickson.

The late 1940s: in amongst the small ads of Chipping Cleghorn's local paper there appears an advertisement announcing the time and place of a forthcoming murder.
The inhabitants of the village assume it's just a harmless piece of fun. Miss Marple, on a visit at the vicarage, instinctively knows it is not and that if one murder occurs then others will follow. As nothing makes sense for Inspector Craddock, he is forced to enlist her help.
Sergeant Fletcher is played by Kevin Whately, who went on to play the helpful assistant to another famous detective in the acclaimed Inspector Morse mysteries on ITV.
