Frustrated and unfulfilled, advertising executive Eddie Anderson takes the drastic measure of driving his car at high speed under a lorry. His miraculous survival and lengthy convalescence give him the opportunity of reviewing the relationships between his family, his work and his mistress, but he finds coming to terms with the world is a painful process for all concerned.
