with Isla St Clair
For 20 years Napoleon dominated Europe. He changed the history of France and the world. But he did something else - he invented total war. Everyone would be involved, young and old, men and boys, women and children. A few adventurous girls even dressed in men's clothes and enlisted in the army.
Isla restates some of these adventures and sings some rare and lovely songs written when only this tiny island stood against him.

Introduced by Bernard Falk
Tonight the teams from Britain and the United States continue to make their escape across country.
Transport is provided to speed up this race against the clock, but somehow problems arise. Making a shelter from brushwood and cooking a meal from raw vegetables also has its moments and after 14 hours' non-stop activity, tempers are getting a little frayed.

Having decided they couldn't take any more of the pop music, weird fashions and rebellious behaviour practised by their children, aged 18,19 and 20, Anne and Geoffrey stole away into the night.
Now 70 miles north and having rented a tatty basement flat, they meet their new neighbours.

Written and compiled from historical sources by Don Shaw

Is there nothing new under the sun? 1770. The South Atlantic. A fleet sets sail from Buenos Aires to expel the British forces and reconquer the Falkland Islands. A major international crisis explodes. What follows may sound strangely familiar, but is firmly based on the historical record and the actual speeches and writings of the time.
