A gang of ruthless hijackers pull off the first stage of a daring plot to besiege a mammoth North Sea oil rig. Within hours on the rig and the production platform, they plant explosives and make their ransom demand of £25 million.

The film that introduced tough, black private eye John Shaft. Harlem mobster Bumpy Jonas wants Shaft to find his daughter, whom he believes kidnapped by a gang led by an old friend of Shaft. But Shaft is also being pressed by police lieutenant Androzzi to investigate Bumpy's activities-and he has only 48 hours to start co-operating.
