The story of the 1914-18 conflict continues with episode four.

Despite initial success, the British infantry fighting at the Belgian town of Mons were forced into retreat after two weeks. Yet, as the Germans pressed forward to Paris, French Commander-in-Chief General Joffre slowly began to build a more solid resistance -which would lead ultimately to Allied victory. A double bill of episodes five and six starts at 7.10pm on BBC4.
