The cameras return to the Crucible theatre, Sheffield, for coverage of day three of the world championship as the first-round matches continue. After his shock defeat at the hands of David Gray in the first round last year, Ronnie O'Sullivan will be hoping for a better finish to the competition this afternoon as his match with Andy Hicks comes to a conclusion. O'Sullivan has made it through to the semi-finals three times but has never progressed further.

On the other table, long-time Crucible veteran John Parrott starts out against Ireland's Michael Judge, who is making his world championship debut.

Presented by Dougie Donnelly and Matt Smith, with commentary provided by Clive Everton, Ray Edmonds, Dennis Taylor, John Virgo, Willie Thorne and Steve Davis.

The cameras return to the Crucible for the first session of Ken Doherty's first-round match against Nick Dyson.

Doherty, ranked seventh in the world, assured himself of a place in snooker's history books by becoming the first player from the Republic of Ireland to win the world championship in 1997. Nick Dyson is returning to the Crucible after a ten-year absence following a first-round defeat in 1991 by Jimmy White. This season Dyson has shown excellent form, coming through five rounds of qualifiers and also winning five matches at the UK championships in November and compiling a 147 break during his second-round match. He will face a stern test, however, against an in-form Doherty.
