The last of three programmes about the controversial policy of privatisation. The Reckoning. Government enthusiasm for privatisation was undaunted as plans were made to sell the electricity industry, complete with nuclear power stations, but the scheme was not a success. Sell-offs had begun to generate as many political problems as plaudits. The size of directors' salaries, numerous redundancies and unhappy customers all tarnished the popularity of the policy. John Plender makes his assessment of how privatisation has changed the political and economic landscape of Britain. Producers John Gau and Chris Powell.
