Continuing the series about the ground-breaking research carried out during the first five decades of the NHS.

Doctor Beryl Corner began her medical career in 1934 at a time when many babies were expected to die soon after birth. Her determination to change this situation led to her save more than 15,000 babies in a career spanning five decades. Now aged 85, Dr Corner recalls her struggle to work as a paediatrician in the days when women were barred from many jobs in medicine, and relives her crusade for specialist baby facilities at Bristol's Southmead Hospital.
