To coincide with the" Mysteries of Ancient China" exhibition at the British Museum, Dr Tony Spawforth travels to China in search of the truth behind the first emperor's quest for immortality.
Over 2,000 years ago, Qin Shi Huangdi used his immense wealth and power to pursue the elusive route to everlasting life - a mountain peak that he believed gods and the immortal passed between the human and celestial worlds.
The mountain in central China where he is believed to be buried contains a vast army of 8,000 terracotta warriors watching over him, remains of entombed workmen, priceless treasures, the bodies of his slaughtered wives and a replica of his earthly kingdom.
