A series featuring letters to the editor of The Times newspaper in peace and war, between 1913 and 1919. The letters, illustrated by archive footage, stills, cartoons and maps, are linked by the actual news headlines and provide a frank, critical and novel look at one of the most fateful periods in 20th century history.
Some of the letters written to the editor are unique to their time. The subject matter in others is virtually unchanged and could appear today - such as a letter about the "situation" in Ireland. Perhaps most surprising, however, is the candour with which correspondents commented on the way the war was being conducted.
