Irritated by the Italian success, Churchill ordered the development of British human torpedoes and mini-submarines. These scored their first notable success against Hitler's "unsinkable" battleship Tirpitz. The programme also tells of Japanese volunteers who piloted human suicide torpedoes into American ships.
