"I don't know whether it's good or bad for Formula 1 to have these sophisticated systems as part of our cars," says driver Ayrton Senna. He's talking just after the sport's governing body Fisa dropped a mid-season bombshell by attempting to outlaw the active suspension system, used with success by Williams and McLaren, "I just think the way they've done [it] ... is the wrong way."
The Formula 1 technological battleground is the setting for this episode in the documentary series that has followed a year in the life of the McLaren motor racing team. But such is the ability to react, off as well as on the track, that within two days of Fisa's ruling, Senna was at Silverstone testing a McLaren without active suspension.
McLaren's fury at the Fisa ruling, and the anger of racing engineer Giorgio Ascanelli when he is not satisfied with the performance of test driver Mika Hakkinen, show the pressure of the Formula 1 team not wanting to lose out to its rivals.
