Latin Nights
"There were people there, they'd got this tan on their face. I thought, hold on a bit, no son of mine's putting make-up on." This was the first reaction of a miner in Bolton when his son and daughter took an interest in Latin ballroom dancing. Now he's as hooked on it as they are: "Get a good result and you think, eh, it's not bad, this caper."
Denise and Maurice Robinson , a factory worker and fork-lift truck driver respectively, are one of two couples followed in tonight's film. The others are
Melanie Walker and Ian Waite , ranked number three in the country. "People say that dancing together is like a marriage. It's not. It's much more intense, they say.
As the film reveals, the price for moving in this glamorous world is counted in hours of relentless practice and never-ending travel. Winningin competition at Blackpool is the pinnacle, and if not, there's always next year.
