"We're tough guys and we're prepared to break each other," says Ron Dennis, the McLaren team boss, during contract negotiations with Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna. Three times world champion, Senna is the subject of this fourth part of the documentary series following the 1993 season with the Formula 1 racing team.
Eventually Senna won a deal that reputedly earned him $1 million a race. Senna is single-minded both on and off the track. "if you're going to be nice and take it easy, you might as well do something else, " he says.
But at Monza, where much of this programme was filmed, Senna reveals his frustrations at driving a car that cannot match arch rival Alain Prost's Williams.
"Finding you cannot do it, because it's outside your control for technical reasons, is really tough," he says. And once again Senna has to face the bitterness of defeat as a crash in the early part of the race effectively ends his already slim chance of becoming world champion. Director Tony Salmon
