Police Surgeon
"Crime is a fashion like any other," says police surgeon Dr Peter Green. "When I first started in Brixton we were getting a lot more stabbings and bitings, while punch-ups and shootings happened more in Streatham. Now things are evened out." A euphemism, it seems, since to Dr Green this means "a lot more crime of all kinds happening everywhere".
Whenever someone is found dead, drunk, overdosed or wounded, a police surgeon is summoned. Dr Green is one of 100 doctors providing a 24-hour-a-day service to London's police.
"In the end you realise all these people are victims", he says. "Even those who commit the crime can tell you awful stories about their lives.
