They were a top team - five miners who together had mined a million tons of coal.
But now they must face up to redundancy.
Director Les Blair, whose feature film Bad Behaviour, starring Stephen Rea, has just opened to rave reviews in America, shot the mining sequences at Calverton
Colliery in Nottinghamshire. "We weren't allowed to take extra lights down, so we rigged up batteries of miners' helmets," he recalls.
