Colliery in Nottinghamshire. "We weren't allowed to take extra lights down, so we rigged up batteries of miners' helmets," he recalls. "One day we got our gear the two-and-a-half miles to the coalface and when we were ready to go all the power suddenly failed. We got to know each other quite well during the next four hours!"
