Last in the series of feature-length documentaries made by independent film-makers.
My Crazy Life!
Gang warfare in Los Angeles has recently been the subject of several features and documentaries, such as Boyz in the Hood. Most have attempted to present some form of social analysis, blaming the ills on social deprivation.
In their film about the strange phenomenon of Samoan street gangs in Los Angeles, French director Jean-Pierre Gorin and anthropologist Dan Marks decided to throw away the rule book, giving gang members access to the film-making process and allowing them to help script and structure the film. According to Marks: "The kids don't say, 'We're depraved because we're deprived.' From their perspective, they kill because it's fun."
