Francis Maude , mp about some recent Department of Trade decisions on takeover bids. Producer ELAINE THOMAS

This film profile, made in 1986 for Arena, is shown in tribute to one of the most famous and flamboyant figures of 20th-century art, who died recently in Figueras in Spain.
Dali was the great showman of surrealism, the creator of the soft watch and the lobster telephone. As a painter his style was unique, yet, perhaps, he will be best remembered for his personality: he was a self-proclaimed genius.
After suffering serious injury in a suspicious fire in 1984 Dali lived as a recluse.
Having courted publicity all his life, he spent his last years shrouded in secrecy. The programme traces his career through film, much of it from Dali's own private archive, and combines the testimony of his closest associates, including Captain Peter Moore and Amanda Lear , and his surrealist contemporaries Max Ernst , Luis Bunuel and Man Ray , with Dali's own extravagant account of his life and adventures.

Concerto
Last of three programmes.
The pianist Mitsuko Uchida and the conductor Jeffrey Tate have established a remarkably close musical rapport, notably while recording the complete cycle of Mozart piano concertos.
Tonight they perform one of the greatest of them, No 24 in c minor (K491). Beforehand they share some insights into this favourite work. They talk of the special nature of the soloist's role (sometimes starring, sometimes accompanying); of the delights of Mozart's orchestration; and of the 'despairing darkness' which pervades the last pages of the concerto.
With the English Chamber Orchestra, led by JOSE-LUIS GARCIA.

We used to build for ever; now 20 years is a long life for a city building. The new architecture has many styles and voices; are we building to last or have we become slaves of the new?
Michael Ignatieff explores the throw-away decade through the eyes of six leading players.
This week he talks to Maxwell Hutchinson , president-elect of the Royal Institute of British
Architects, who says: 'It would be interesting to think the development of our towns might never be finished.
They'll continue to grow and develop, things will change: maybe there'll always be tower cranes in our cities.' Photography JEREMY HUMPHRIES Producer MARK HARRISON
