Starring Orson Welles
The first part of a contrasting double bill is Orson Welles's highly individualistic version of Shakespeare's play. This imaginative version of Macbeth was filmed by Welles in the space of three weeks. He called it 'a kind of violently sketched charcoal drawing of a great play'. Liberties may have been taken with the text but the result is an original and entertaining film of extravagant theatricality.
