In 1974, producer Paul Watson introduced to television the Wilkins family of Reading. They were filmed day and night. Their prejudices, thoughts, hopes, fears and disappointments became public knowledge. It was the first time that the private life of an English family had been exposed with such candour and intimacy. This is a chance to see again a series that helped to change documentary film, and to evaluate from today's perspective the ups and downs of an urban family, who knew nothing of Thatcherism, yuppies, the Princess of Wales and Neighbours.
