Muirfield TOM WATSON once declared that he'd be a raving lunatic if he played British links golf for four straight weeks.
Whether that was before or after his five Open wins in nine years is not clear, but coming second in the US version a few weeks ago does suggest a timely recurrence of his highly productive madness. GREG NORMAN has patrolled the waters ominously quietly so far,
SEVE has been 'written off, would you believe, in some quarters, and IAN WOOSNAM - well, winning has been his game this year - will this be Bertie's finest four?
Watson's total in 1980 was 271 (13 under par) and prior to that Trevino (278), Nicklaus (282), Player (284) and Cotton (284) won - exalted company indeed. Describing the scene are PETER ALLISS
