So wrote the composer when inviting a friend to a performance of his Dream of Gerontius at the Three Choirs Festival in 1902. The invitation is particularly poignant this year, the 50th anniversary of Edward Elgar 's death, and was commemorated with a special concert on the opening night of the 257th Three Choirs Festival.
