England v Scotland Wales v Ireland
INIGEL STARMER-SMITH introduces highlights of yesterday's internationals. After a disappointing season for both sides, England play Scotland for the Calcutta Cup and probably this year's wooden spoon. Wales, after their heartening win over Scotland, take on Ireland, who, with wins over Scotland and France, have their sights on the Triple Crown and Grand Slam. Commentator in Twickenham

British Science -
On the Wrong Track?
Why, when Britain wins more Nobel prizes than almost anyone else, aren't our scientists providing industry with the flow of ideas needed to keep our factories in business and people in work?

The third of 15 programmes. Presented by Jonathan Miller
Until the present century vision was often regarded as a simple process - the eyes provide the brain with pictures of the outside world, and the brain just looks at them. We now know that visual perception is one of the most complicated functions that the human brain performs. Professor Richard Gregory , from the University of Bristol, shows how the study of illusions has demonstrated how much of what we see ' out there' is actually generated from within. Animal Impostors
A viceroy that looks like a monarch; a worm that isn't; a beetle that flashes in code: what have they in common? They are all imposters.
Some impostors use disguise as a cloak of invisibility. Others imitate the motft colourful of animals. The variety of deceptions is vast: insects that look like plants and plants that look like insects; animals that deceive to get a meal and those that deceive to avoid becoming one. The story of animal impostors is one of the most remarkable in nature. Narrator Barry Patne

starring Joanne Woodward Nell Potts , Roberta Wallach
Actor Paul Newman proved himself one of Hollywood's finest directors with this, his second film - a sensitive version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play. His real-life wife, Joanne Woodward , plays the slatternly Beatrice Hunsdorffer , a woman deserted by her husband and desperately attempting to bring up her daughters with little money and diminishing hope. Their daughter, Nell, plays the gentle Matilda, whose experiments with marigolds win her a school prize in the film's powerful climactic scene.
