' The Golden Fleece '
The saying went, ' in Europe the best wool is English, in England the best wool is Cotswold '.
Dr Peter Fowler takes a Journey Back in search of the golden fleece that brought spectacular fortunes to the West Country clothiers - and an equally spectacular decline. He looks at the legacy of fine buildings left to Gloucestershire by the wool and cloth trades and visits the mill that produces the famous Stroudwater scarlet still worn by the Brigade of Guards.
