2.0 International Motor Racing: The French Grand Prix
Two thrilling races at Monaco and Spain, won by Gilles Villeneuve in his Ferrari, have changed the shape of the World Championship table. Although Carlos Reutemann still leads, the chasing group of four are all in superb form.

Today's race, on the fast Dijon track, should again be very close and exciting. Commentators MURRAY WALKER and JAMES HUNT

2.20* Cricket: The John Player League
With such a heavy cricket season, both injuries and Test calls will take their toll on the counties, and as we move towards the second half of the John Player League it will be the younger players who are called upon to prove their worth in one of the most exacting cricket competitions. The ability to score quickly is vital, and today's featured teams include some of the most prodigious hitters of the ball in the league.
Commentators CHRISTOPHER MARTIN-JENKINS and PETER WALKER

2.55* International Athletics: The European Cup Semi-finals from Helsinki and Meadowbank
A very important day for Britain's men and women as they attempt to qualify for the final in Zagreb in August.
In Helsinki Sebastian Coe is in action in the 800 metres and every point will be vital. The result could well depend on the last event - the 4 x 400 metres relay.
In Edinburgh the overall strength of Britain's girls should be enough to see them safely through.

A series of ten programmes devoted to the music composed by Mozart during the last ten years of his life. Presented by H. C. Robbins Landon
The Taste of Death on My Tongue In 1781 Mozart left Salzburg, a city he loathed, for Vienna. Ten years later he died in penury and his corpse was thrown into a pauper's grave on the outskirts of the Imperial City.
Since his death rumours have abounded - he was a heavy gambler; he hastened his end by ' excesses ' with the ' loose-living rascals' of the opera house; he died of poisoning.
This documentary film traces the events of the last year of Mozart's life leading to his tragic and untimely death.

Jo Spence had been a professional photographer for years when suddenly she began to question what she was doing. Overnight she stopped photographing other people and turned to the snapshots of herself taken by others. It was an effort to see beyond the smiling images in her own family album.

The second of ten programmes
A Mozart Workshop with Colin Davis who conducts the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House leader John Brown with John Barker (piano and harpsichord) Ubaldo Gardini (Italian coach, Royal Opera House)

A new production of Don Giovanni conducted by Sir Colin Davis opens at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, tomorrow night, launching a three-week Festival of Mozart.

In tonight's programme Sir Colin rehearses duets from Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro to reveal the extraordinary, intuitive insight that gives Mozart's music its special qualities. There are no real villains in the operas - even the bad are lovingly provided with music that shows the passion, and compassion, which Mozart shares with them as fellow human beings.
